My childhood was spent working on projects of all sorts with my parents and siblings. This upbringing was the spark of my creative endeavors. On my own, I drew. Drawing has always seemed a natural process, whether I was doing it for the sake of visual exploration or as a way of working out plans for three dimensional projects. I took my growing fascination with drawing and visual media with me to study at the Delaware College of Art and Design. I graduated in 2018 and have since been freelancing and selling original work. I primarily work with the traditional mediums of graphite, charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, and oils, but I have also love working with digital tools. It is through these mediums that I aim to explore and articulate themes of childhood, archetypal stories and the relationships between visual pieces of a visual world.

ARTIST STATEMENT

 

Jonathan Solek is an artist engaged with painting and drawing as a means of understanding and expressing themes of childhood, psychology, spirituality, and the natural world around him. His works attempt to appeal to the viewer’s appreciation for beauty and meaning. The subject matter of his paintings range from representational to nonrepresentational with some works occupying both spaces simultaneously. 

With an illustrative technique, he uses drawing and painting media to manifest images of both the idyllic as well as the actual world as he sees it. With his nonrepresentational work, he focuses on the freedoms in pure design while honing skills in structure, composition and color.
